Comparative analysis of materials used in the production of glossy facades

Glossy facades today are at the peak of furniture fashion, being a current fashion trend.

There are many reasons for this: the rapid development of new technologies, thanks to which the buyer received a high-quality product (the varnish is not erased, the glossy surface of the facade is resistant to color loss and possible mechanical damage), glossy facades allow you to visually change the geometry of the room, increase the space by filling it with air and light, create a festive atmosphere.

In addition, the pace of our life has changed, kitchen gatherings have become less frequent, and the classic kitchen sets, which served as a symbol of a calm, comfortable life and family prosperity, have been replaced by modern kitchens with their bright colors, rational organization of the working space and minimization of the occupied area.

What modern materials can give us this holiday?

Coating-high gloss plastic (postforming)

This is the cheapest segment of high-gloss facades. As standard, a chipboard plate is used, HPL plastic (high-pressure plastic), which is easily Postformed at small radii.

Advantages:
  • Wide range of colors.
  • High strength, high abrasion resistance of the glossy surface.
  • Maximum service life compared to other glossy coatings.
  • Good resistance to temperature changes.
  • Watertightness.
  • High resistance to aggressive household detergents.
  • Affordable price.
Disadvantages:
  • Low gloss level, dullness of the facade surface.
  • The level of resistance to color loss depends on the quality of the plastic used.
  • You can't fix minor defects (scratches, household damage).
  • The reverse side of the facade is usually white.
  • Possibility to produce facades only in standard sizes.
High Gloss PVC Film

In the manufacture of these facades, an MDF Board is used, wrapped in a glossy PVC film using the technology of hot vacuum pressing on membrane-vacuum presses.

Advantages:
  • Variety of colors and textures.
  • Resistance to abrasion of the surface.
  • Easy to clean, PVC film is resistant to cleaning agents.
  • Affordable price.
Disadvantages:
  • Film fronts must not be exposed to direct sunlight for a long time.
  • The film can peel off under constant exposure to high temperatures, with temperature and humidity changes (depends on the quality of the film).
Painted High Gloss Fronts

The production technology operations are the following: preparation of MDF board (sanding, priming, sanding), application of several layers of paint. As a result, the front has a perfectly smooth glossy surface.

Advantages:
  • Variety of colors and finishes (including finishing effects such as: chameleon, pearl, patina) - up to 1000 decors. The color of the future front can be precisely selected according to the RAL table of decors.
  • Possible to correct minor defects.
  • Painted MDF fronts produce no harmful emissions, they are environmentally friendly.
  • Painted glossy surface of the front does not hog or separate.
  • Painted glossy fronts tolerate temperature and humidity fluctuations in the room well.
Disadvantages:
  • The reverse side of the fronts is often white (to reduce the cost).
  • The fronts fade when exposed to direct sunlight.
  • They are non-resistant to mechanical damage; therefore, they might get chipped.
  • High price.
High Gloss Acrylic Fronts

Acrylic fronts that are now popular are made from MDF boards. Acrylic plastics is applied on such boards with the use of polyurethane adhesive.

Advantages:
  • Rich and deep colors.
  • High level of gloss.
  • The material is environmentally friendly and can subsequently be recycled.
  • High resistance to discoloration and humidity impact.
  • Defects of the glossy surface can be eliminated by polishing.
Disadvantages:
  • Low resistance to mechanical damage (no more than 0.5 N).
  • Aggressive detergents cannot be used to clean the surface.
  • The reverse side of the front is usually white.
  • The front can only be blind; it is impossible to make a curved front from acryl.
  • High price.
Coating – High Gloss UV-Lacquer

UV-MDF is the latest product on the market for glossy furniture fronts. This is a great alternative to painted and acrylic fronts.

Advantages:
  • Perfect, smooth, mirror-like surface.
  • Bright and rich decors.
  • High light fastness of the glossy surface.
  • Extremely high level of gloss, no pebbles on the surface.
